The Book of Fines Vol II 1540-1571
Published in 2009, the second volume, examined how the finances of the town were changing, looks at public buildings, employment and 'aliens' as all foreigners were called at this time and the new secular patrons of the town after the Reformation. As with all the volumes the book contains a full transcription of the original document.
All the volumes are available from the Southampton Records Series which has, along with it's predecessor The Southampton Record Society, has been bringing the archives of Southampton into the public sphere for more than a century. Information on other volumes is available on the Series website, the proceeds are used to produce future volumes.
